On 1 June 2008, IATA will withdraw all paper ticket stock from the BSPs and you will have to use BSP Electronic Tickets. After 1 June 2008 paper tickets must not be issued on the BSP neutral paper ticket stock using the bmi airline accounting code (236). bmi are aware that some bmi routes and interline itineraries will not be eligible for ticketing on an electronic ticket. The Electronic Miscellaneous Document (EMD) that will replace all other non-ticket documents is not anticipated to be fully available for use until 2009 at the earliest.

During the interim period bmi will adopt use of the IATA virtual version of the MPD known as the V-MPD. This document can be used to request paper ticket issuance by bmi.

To find out how to request a V-MPD or for further information including ticketing instructions and frequently asked questions please visit our UK trade website: www.flybmi.com/trade. You can follow the link on homepage or alternatively look under the booking information section under fares and ticketing.

This year sees exciting positive changes for Terminal 1. The bmi customer experience will be smoother and quicker with a redesigned departures concourse and Star's 'move under one roof' project.

Star Alliance 'Move under one Roof' project
Customers will soon benefit from common shared check-in facilities, three class check-in zones, dedicated concierge, self check in and preferred security screening area for participating carriers. The first phase of renovations will allow both NZ and UA to relocate to T1 this June and all carriers should be in T1 by 2012.

Star Alliance lounge
In June 2008, Star will open it's largest lounge in the entire network. The 1,650 square metre facility will be for all First and Business Class passengers as well as all Star Alliance Gold Card holders travelling on any of the member carriers from Terminal 1.

Star Alliance Arrivals Lounge
Star unveils a new 330 square metre facility offering a tranquil surrounding, shower facilities in modern washrooms, and light breakfast or lunch choices. The lounge is located outside the customs hall on the main level with convenient elevator access from the arrivals area and is available to all Star gold, bmi diamond club gold and business class customers traveling on an eligible bmi flight arriving on that day.

  • airline to lease two Boeing 757-200s to increase capacity and improve schedules to Almaty and Freetown
  • increases capacity to Tel Aviv commencing 13 March
  • strong performance of former BMED routes

From 1 May new non-stop links from Heathrow to both Almaty in Kazakhstan and Freetown will be introduced. Flying times to the Sierra Leone capital will be reduced by over an hour and a half and the route will also be enhanced by the addition of an extra flight, taking the total to four flights a week. The introduction of non-stop flights between Heathrow and Almaty will reduce flying time each way by two hours. The new Heathrow to Tel Aviv service - which is selling beyond expectations - will be upgraded on six days a week to a Boeing 757 which will considerably increase capacity on the route. Bishkek, previously operated via Yerevan, will now operate via Almaty, thus reducing the onward flight time compared to the previous intermediate point as well as benefiting from the larger Boeing 757 aircraft.

The two 757 aircraft have been damp-leased from Astraeus (meaning the aircraft will operate with an Astraeus flight crew but a bmi cabin crew) for an initial two year period with an option to extend. Two separate cabins will offer a mix of business class and economy service.

The introduction of the network changes will result in the suspension of services between Heathrow and Dakar.
